The students seated near the window tend to look outside often.
Some of the students are not taking notes.
Two of the girls are whispering about something.
When the teacher changes activities a few a the boys begin talking about football.
The teacher walks around the classroom while presenting to keep the students focused. The teacher also directs many questions to the class to try to get their participation.
When I begin teaching I hope that my students are engaged throughout the entire class session. From my observations I have found that this is most difficult during transitions from one activity to the next. I plan on keeping the class attentive during transitions by creating a routine so that no time is wasted when moving from one activity to the next. During class, I plan on moving in the classroom so that I keep students on taste because of my proximity to them. I also feel that questioning is a great technique to get the students involved; it not only gets students thinking about the class but it will also serve as a formative assessment to me so that I know what the students are understanding.
